Description Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Assesses and reports unusual findings with regard to venous access, signs and symptoms of citrate sensitivity, alterations in fluid volume and anticoagulation of extracorporeal circuit.
- Identifies donors conforming to Mount Auburn Hospital standards through a screening process and report out of range values or unusual findings
- Utilizes applicable aseptic techniques to plan, perform and chart whole blood collection procedures, including mobile collections in accordance with Mount Auburn Hospital policies and procedures.
- Monitors procedures ensuring donor reactions are reported and initial treatment given.
- Performs quality control of collection and processing equipment using established protocols.
- Records and reports, problems or irregularities as required to meet established standards.
- Adheres to established hospital and department policies, procedures, and objectives. Complies with requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies.
- Maintains all required records, reports, statistics, logs, and files.
- Attends inservices and meetings as required. Keeps up to date with new methods or improvements. Initials meeting notes indicating they have been read and understood.
- Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, conferences, and professional affiliations.
- Troubleshoots methods, procedures, and instrumentation as needed according to departmental procedures.
- Monitors and maintains adequate inventory for daily testing routine.
- Performs other similar or related duties as required or as directed.
- Operates computer for required applications.

At the direction of the Director of Transfusion Medicine Service (TMS) and the administrative guidance of the Manager of Clinical Pathology, you will plan, coordinate, monitor and perform TMS Quality System functions including Quality Control, Assurance and Improvement, as well as Document Control and Regulatory Compliance. Requires a BA/BS with MT (ASCP) or equivalent certification, plus 4 years experience in Transfusion Medicine. Must have circumspect problem-solving skills, strong math and computer skills, as well as competence in MS Office. Excellent interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills are essential. Familiarity with Hematopoietic Cell Therapies is preferred, as is advanced training/certification in Quality Systems Management.

Laboratory Supervisor-Transfusion Service
The ideal candidate will possess above average expertise in theoretical and technical skills relevant to the Transfusion Service, and other selected areas of the Laboratory.
Must be able to make sound managerial decisions with regard to staffing, scheduling, procedural development, training and competency, and day to day operations to ensure quality service. We are a teaching facility which requires good communication skills and sound technical knowledge. Must have proven competency in the implementation and maintenance of computer systems. Responsible for all quality and regulatory requirements for the Transfusion Service, which is both AABB and CAP accredited.
Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry or related field. Medical Technologist (ASCP) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (NCA) or equivalent certification. SBB(ASCP) or BB(ASCP) preferred.
Experience:
5 years of clinical laboratory experience or equivalent combination of relevant education/training. 2-3 years of supervisory experience.
