Medical Technologist - Mount Auburn Hospital

40 Hour Evening Shift

Under the direction of the Blood Bank Manager, performs a wide variety of technical tasks to assist in directing the daily activities of the Blood Bank, following established standards and procedures.



1.        Performs the duties of a medical technologist for the Blood Bank.

2.        Follows strict principles of asepsis and antisepsis in performing duties.  

3.        Uses proper techniques and equipment.

4.        Assures proper functioning, maintenance, and cleanliness of equipment and work area.

5.        Performs tests and procedures as ordered, following outlines in procedure manuals.

6.        Determines that specimens were collected, transported, labeled, and preserved according to procedures 100% of the time.

7.        Records, reports, and posts test results/findings as required to meet established standards. 

8.        Performs quality control using established protocols.

9.        Adheres to established hospital and department policies, procedures, and objectives.

10.     Complies with requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies.

11.     Maintains all required records, reports, statistics, logs, and files. 

12.     Performs phlebotomy/EKG procedures as needed. 

13.     Attends in-services and meetings as required.  Keeps up to date with new methods or improvements.  Initials meeting notes indicating they have been read and understood.

14.     Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, conferences, and professional affiliations.

15.     Troubleshoots methods, procedures, and instrumentation as needed according to departmental procedures.

16.     Monitors and maintains adequate inventory for daily testing routine.

17.     Performs other similar or related duties as required or as directed.

18.     Revises or transcribes procedures as directed.  

19.     Participates in the evaluation of new techniques as required.   

20.     Operates computer for required applications.

21.     Participates in the training of new technologists and students.





1.        Bachelor's degree in medical technology, MT/MLS (A.S.C.P.), or equivalent. MLT will be considered.

2.        One year of experience in a similar or related job setting is preferred.  New graduates will be considered.

3.        Good interpersonal skills required.  Proficiency in the problem solving, trouble shooting, and judgement is necessary, as well as accuracy and efficient use of time and materials.
